What size should corporate headshots be? This is a common question, and we reply by asking where the corporate headshot will be used. If it will be used for your LinkedIn profile photo, the recommended square image size for LinkedIn is 400 (w) x 400 (h) pixels at 72 dpi. The crop will be tight as this is a small image, and you only want to see your face and maybe some shoulders. On LinkedIn, you also have a banner image, which is a letterbox in shape. We do not recommend you add your corporate headshot here as it will be over the top, with two corporate headshots so close together.
When designing a corporate website it is important to think about what size should corporate headshots be? Most companies will have an ‘about us‘ or ‘meet the team’ page, and here you usually have the page with a series of thumbnail corporate headshots that will generally be the size of your LinkedIn profile photo, and then the viewer will click through on the thumbnail to a much larger corporate headshot all with all the details about the individual. We suggest that when you commission your professional corporate headshot, tell your preferred corporate portrait photographer where you want to use your new corporate headshot. Most professional photographers would suggest that they capture a wide corporate headshot, maybe from the waist up. Capture it at high resolution at 300 dpi; that way, you can always crop in to make your thumbnail and LinkedIn profile photos. Remember, you can not crop out!
What size should corporate headshots be? Simply get your photographer to shoot you from the waist up with plenty of space around your arms and above your head. This way, you always have options. You must get the corporate headshot captured at 300 dpi. This way, it can be used in print and also reduced to 72 dpi and made web-friendly. Many of our clients don’t have the facility to do this, so ask your corporate photographer to supply you with the necessary variations.
